this photo is one of the first of those “this is so motoerotica” shots: red, raw, corporeal. a fragment of the lower face is part of a larger, revealing self-portrait that screams of flaws i don’t want to let others near. by focusing only on the lips, i can pull back from the imperfections of my face, observe myself as someone else, and remain anonymous to outside viewers. there are no eyes in the frame to pair with a scarred face, troublesome birthmarks, or a soft moustache. this way i might even appear alluring to myself. i would actually ask others — do these lips look kissable? hmmmm..
